The lake

A spring-fed lake, for residents only.

At the center of La Cebadilla is a private lake for residents. It is fed by a pipeline from the springhead of the La Cebadilla Cienega, a natural desert wetland next to Tanque Verde Creek. Residents fish it as catch-and-release, ride and walk the trails that lead to it, and watch the birds that use it as a refuge. Trees line the banks, with the mountains rising behind.

The lake is for residents. Prospective buyers are welcome to view it from the road. Please do not enter the lake grounds.

Heritage

Ranch country, long before it was a neighborhood.

La Cebadilla takes its name from Rancho de la Cebadilla, a Carrillo family cattle ranch that once reached north past what is now Agua Caliente Park. Cattle grazed the land into the 1960s. The neighborhood was platted in 1973, and developer Raymond Bidegain turned the old ranch into a community of large homesites on the land's original terms: open space, livestock and the mountains. Today about 160 homes share the valley, most on three acres or more.

Welcome to El Camino Rinconado, a horse property in La Cebadilla Estates.

Here, the day starts at the barn. You step off the back porch, and it’s right there. Three stalls, each with its own turnout, plus a wash rack, hay storage and a trailer-ready drive, all added in 2023. And the three-car garage has an RV bay for the rig.

The home sits on nearly four acres at the east end of the Tanque Verde Valley, with the Rincon and Santa Catalina Mountains all around you.

Inside, a courtyard entry leads to wood-beamed ceilings with viga details, and broad windows that face the mountains. There’s a family room, formal and casual dining, and an open kitchen. Three bedrooms, two full baths, and an oversized laundry and craft room.

A covered porch wraps the whole house, so mornings with coffee and evenings after a ride happen outdoors.

Then there’s the neighborhood. La Cebadilla was a cattle ranch long before it was a neighborhood. Today it has its own horse and hiking trails, and a spring-fed lake just for residents, and you’re a short ride from Saguaro National Park. From October through April, it’s prime riding weather.

When you’re ready to experience it for yourself, Susanne and Matt Grogan would be happy to show you around.

The residence

A horse property in La Cebadilla, on nearly four acres beneath the Rincon and Santa Catalina Mountains.

Set on 3.82 acres in La Cebadilla Estates, an equestrian neighborhood at the east end of the Tanque Verde Valley, this custom masonry home includes horse facilities close to the residence. The barn is a short walk from the back porch. Three stalls with turnouts, a wash rack, hay storage and a trailer drive were added in 2023, and a three-car garage includes an RV bay for the rig.

The 3,126-square-foot residence has a courtyard entry, wood-beamed ceilings with viga details, and broad windows facing the mountains. A covered porch wraps the house, so mornings with coffee and evenings after a ride happen outdoors. Inside are a family room, formal and casual dining, an open kitchen, three bedrooms, two full baths, and an oversized laundry and craft room.

Beyond the property line, La Cebadilla's horse and hiking trails, a residents-only spring-fed lake, and the Rincon Mountain District of Saguaro National Park are all close by. It is a neighborhood of open land and quiet roads, with no clubhouse or golf course.
