The area at a glance

Not one subdivision. A collection of distinct ways to live.

The Catalina Foothills stretch across the base of the Santa Catalina Mountains north of central Tucson, bringing together desert scenery, established neighborhoods, custom estates, golf and resort settings, and convenient access to shopping, dining, and outdoor recreation.

Buyers can find classic Tucson adobe and ranch homes, contemporary hillside residences, lock-and-leave properties, and newly built custom estates. Elevation, lot orientation, architecture, association structure, and access can change considerably from one neighborhood to the next.

Neighborhood by neighborhood

Seven places to begin the conversation.

A broad Foothills address does not tell the whole story. These established areas offer a useful cross-section of the landscape.

Everyday Foothills

Dining, shopping, and gathering places with local character.

La Encantada

The Foothills’ principal open-air luxury shopping and dining destination, set at Skyline Drive and Campbell Avenue.

St. Philip's Plaza

A shaded courtyard setting for local restaurants, patios, boutiques, live events, and a weekend market near River Road.

Casas Adobes Plaza

A long-established northwest destination with adobe architecture, specialty food shopping, local businesses, and restaurants.

Into the mountains

Trailheads that shape the Foothills.

Mountain access is part of the area’s identity. Conditions, access, parking, and seasonal heat should always be checked before a visit.

Western Foothills

Pima Canyon

A dramatic trail corridor into the Pusch Ridge Wilderness, framed by the Catalina Mountains.

Eastern Foothills

Sabino Canyon

One of Southern Arizona’s defining outdoor destinations, with hiking, shuttle access, and desert canyon scenery.

Questions buyers ask

About living in the Catalina Foothills.

Is the Catalina Foothills part of the City of Tucson?

Mostly not. Much of the Catalina Foothills is unincorporated Pima County, even though homes use Tucson mailing addresses. The mailing city does not tell you which government issues permits, so check the specific parcel.

Pima County address and jurisdiction
How much do homes in the Catalina Foothills cost?

Prices vary widely by neighborhood, lot and home. In the 100 single-family sales we have recorded in the Foothills ZIP codes 85718 and 85750 since 2021, prices ranged from $335,000 to $4.5 million, with a median of about $1.2 million. That is our own record, not the whole market.

Which Catalina Foothills neighborhoods are gated?

Several. Pima Canyon Estates, Skyline Country Club Estates and Sin Vacas are guard-gated, and parts of Ventana Canyon sit behind gates. Catalina Foothills Estates and Coronado Foothills Estates are established neighborhoods without a community gate.

Is Catalina Foothills Estates the same as the Catalina Foothills?

No. The Catalina Foothills is the broad area north of central Tucson. Catalina Foothills Estates is a specific group of older subdivisions within it, recorded in numbered phases.

Local guidance

Find the part of the Foothills that fits you.

A golf-course setting, an elevated custom homesite, a low-maintenance association, and a non-gated estate can share the same broad address while offering very different daily experiences.
